This image is currently on display at NOAA’s Monterey Bay National Marine Sanctuary Exploration Center. Velella velella, also known as by-the-wind-sailors, frequently wash up in large numbers along the California coast during early summer. Propped up against a cloudy backdrop, I used a bright exposure to highlight the unique patterns and colors of these colonial organisms.
Prints are made to order and professionally produced by Bay Photo locally in Santa Cruz. They arrive ready to hang using float mount hangers. Wire hangers are also available upon request.
